President
Matt personifies the archetype of the Alberta oil patch story. From Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, he moved to Alberta with the ambition of working on service rigs, driven by the magnetic pull of the oil industry—a legacy embedded deeply within his family as a third-generation oilman. After gaining several years of hands-on experience in the field, he pursued further education, earning a diploma in business and marketing from SIAST. His career then pivoted toward the manufacturing sector, where he worked at Rangeland Drilling Automation. There, he cultivated a network of invaluable connections that eventually led him to Treeline. In 2015, Matt joined Treeline in a sales role, steadily advancing through the ranks to become Vice President of Sales in 2016. By 2019, his hard work and dedication earned him the position of Vice President of Operations, alongside a partnership in the company. His leadership trajectory culminated in his appointment as President in 2025. When he is not in the office or in the field visiting the guys, Matt remains deeply committed to his family and an active lifestyle, frequently engaging in a variety of outdoor pursuits that allow him to recharge and stay grounded.
Executive Vice President
Hailing from the ranching roots of Dogpound, Alberta, JD now calls Calgary home. After a spirited career as a professional hockey player, he shifted gears to pursue his education, earning a diploma in Energy Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. JD began his career selling service rigs with Ensign Energy Services, but his journey took a pivotal turn when he joined Treeline in 2017. Rising to the role of VP of Sales and partner in 2019, he became Executive Vice President in 2024. With a keen focus on strategy and development, JD has been essential in shaping the dynamic team at Treeline, always prioritizing relationships and results. When he’s not navigating the energy sector, you can find JD enjoying quality time with his wife and two young kids—whether they’re hitting the golf course or rounding up cattle in the picturesque countryside southwest of Calgary.
Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer
A born and raised Calgarian, Alex Watterworth joined Treeline in 2019, bringing financial expertise with nearly two decades experience in corporate finance, accounting & reporting, internal & external audit, investor relations and mergers & acquisitions. Prior to Treeline, Alex articled with a Big Four global accounting firm before progressing through a variety of technical and leadership positions with a Canadian mega-cap integrated oil & gas company. Alex received his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting with Distinction from the University of Calgary, holds a CPA, CA designation and serves as a member of the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors Audit and Tax Committee. Outside of the office, Alex is a proud husband and father of three, spending his time camping, cycling and is an avid long-distance runner.
